DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: Students will receive a personalized marker to move around eight stations.
STUDENTS' IN GRADES K - 2: Students at this level will need to read 15 books per station. Books may be read to students and they will receive appropriate credit. To help our record keeping, please have students turn in lists only when 15 books have been read. Your signature, along with the teacher's signature, will be required as a monitoring device on all lists returned. Your child will need your support and assistance in participating in this program.
STUDENTS' IN GRADES 3-8: Students at this level will need to read 300 pages per station. Books may also be read to students at this level and they will receive credit for them. We are encouraging students to expand their scope of reading by having them read in 4 different categories during the course of the program. Your signature, as well as the teacher's signature, will be required as a monitoring device on all lists returned.
PARENT PARTICIPATION: Parents who wish to participate by reading may do so. As parents complete books they may turn in a form to Mrs. Nielson in the 4th grade classroom.
AWARDS: Students will earn awards as they travel to the eight stations. A list of awards and requirements will be posted in each classroom. A gold medal will be given to students who have completed the required reading ( 8 stations ) at an awards ceremony, to be held at the end of the program. Students may receive raffle tickets by visiting the following libraries.
* Sierra View - inside Old Town Mall
* Downtown branch - 301 Center street
* Sparks - 12 Street
* Reno Library - Robb Drive
* Peavine - North Valley
There will be a raffle at the end of the program.
The program will end May 2, 2008. This will be the last day that any reading slips will be accepted for credit. Parents, please be aware that it is the students responsibility to see that all reading slips are properly signed and turned in by the deadline. If the student has done the reading, but has failed to turn in the reading slip he/she will not receive credit.
All students will be notified within one or two days of the end of the program as to whether or not they will be receiving a gold medal. If a student believes that he/she is entitled to a medal, but the records do not reflect this, please contact the student's teacher as soon as possible. The student's teacher will be the final authority as to whether a medal will be awarded. Please take time to monitor your student's progress throughout the program and you will help make it a success for your child.
Please be aware that this program is NOT a competition between students. We want to encourage all students to do THEIR personal best.
The medal ceremony is scheduled for_ _May 22, 2008_ _@ 1:00 p.m..
It is through your cooperation and supports that this program has been so successful over past years and will continue to be so. We thank you
Mrs. Nielson
