National Geographic Bee

Little Flower School has participated in the National Geographic Bee for over 18 years. Sister Elizabeth has been the instructor since it has been established at our school. She has inspired past State Champions and National finalists.

Class in geography will take place after school from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. An exception can be made for a student who may be taking part in a particular activity or has a special appointment.

It is hoped that students will avail of this opportunity to learn about the world we live in.

The National Geographic Society established the National Geographic Bee with the aim of encouraging an interest in the knowledge of geography.

From small beginnings it has now spread to all the states and territories of the United States fulfilling the dream of the Society of seeing young people aware of, interested in, and studying not only the United States but the whole physical world with its people and cultures. Knowing this helps us to understand our world neighbors and (help to) promote peace.

  • The actual Geographic Bee takes place in three stages:

In the School: The School stage of the Bee is open to students in Grades 4 through 8. To participate in it, it is necessary to study the whole world. An Atlas is the most important book. The contest to decide the School winner may take place late December or immediately after the Christmas vacation.
In the State: The school winner can then compete in the second stage in Las Vegas with the winners from each of the schools in Nevada. Should he/she be successful here her/she can advance to the third stage in Washington D.C. to compete with all the State winners.
In the entire Country: Whoever wins in Washington D.C. becomes the National champion and winner of a $25,000.00 or Scholarship. Second prize is $15,000.00 and the Third prize is $10,000.00.
