School History

In September 1962, Little Flower School opened its doors to admit 182 students in grades One through Six. Originally staffed by Four Sisters of Mercy from St. Joseph's Convent, Longford, Ireland. They came to minister in the Diocese at the request of Bishop Robert Dwyer and Monsignor Thomas Collins who was then pastor of Little Flower Parish. Monsignor Bowling was the pastor from 1974 until 2002. Today we enjoy the pastorate of Father Honesto Agustin who has served since 2003 as the pastor of the Parish. At the present time, the staff consists of fifteen full time and eleven part time employees.

The Sisters of Mercy from Longford, Ireland first staffed Little Flower School. Their faith commitment is still apparent in our school's mission and philosophy. It is important to note that in 2003, Sr. Margaret Oates, a Sister of Mercy, retired. She is currently the Little Flower Parish Administrator, attends our School Board meetings, and is frequently consulted in school-related matters. Sr. Maura McGarry retired in 2008. Sr. Elizabeth O'Neill, while no longer employed by Little Flower School, continues to be the advisor for the National Geographic Bee. Their sage wisdom, inspired by their deep faith and love of our school, is still evident today.

Working within the framework of our school philosophy, we are still committed to providing a quality Catholic education. Currently we serve 300 students of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds from Kindergarten through Eighth grades.
