School Board And Governance

Governance of Diocese of Reno Catholic Elementary Schools
All of the elementary schools in the Diocese of Reno are parish schools,  which means each is a ministry of the parish to which it is attached. Parish schools fall under the direction and supervision of each parish’s Pastor. The Pastor delegates the management of the school to the Principal, and the Pastor serves as the Principal’s primary supervisor.

The Pastor and the Principal of each elementary school are supported by a consultative School Board, who advise the Pastor and the Principal in the areas of Catholic identity, finance, policy, development, and broad curriculum issues.

The Pastor, Principal, and School Board are guided by Diocese of Reno diocesan policy, which is administered by the Superintendent of Catholic Schools. In the Diocese of Reno, the Superintendent is the Bishop’s representative for Catholic schools. The Superintendent serves as a resource for Pastors and assists in the oversight of each school’s Principal regarding overall school administration and the educational program.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Little Flower School Board is to support and promote the ideals of Catholic education where pastor, principal, parents, teachers, and students work in collaboration to integrate Christian virtues, gospel teachings and an excellent academic environment and thereby assist students toward the conscious choice of living a responsible Catholic life.

The Board is established to assist the Pastor and Principal in the governance of the education program. When the Board meets as Pastor, Principal, and members, and agrees on policy matters, the decision is effective and binding on all. The Board is consultative in the following sense: the members can not act apart from the Pastor and Principal and can not make decisions binding for the Parish Education Program without the approval of the Pastor and Principal.

The board meets the fourth Wednesday of every month, at 7:00 p.m., except during the summer, November and December. Individuals are asked to serve on various committees. A commitment of three years is needed, any parent, parishioner, or interested person who wishes to apply, may pick up an application form in the Church Office or at the School Office. A brief interview will be required and the applicant will be contacted to set up an appointment.
