Religious Formation

The teaching of Catholic Doctrine is given special emphasis in our educational program. Students engage in daily prayer, and have opportunities to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist after appropriate preparation. Personal, family, local and global concerns, as well as other issues are addressed from a Catholic perspective. Students are encouraged to respond to one another with love and respect. Regular Mass attendance, prayer, attitudes of respect, and proper moral values must be nurtured and encouraged in family life. Parents are the primary teachers of their children in the ways of faith and Little Flower School encourages and assists the family in daily living and in practices of the Catholic faith. While opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation are available during Lent and Advent, parents are encouraged to help children receive this Sacrament throughout the year.

The Family Life Program is taught in the classroom. Parents are strongly encouraged to continue the lessons by supporting parent-child relationships, providing marriage and family life connections, and teaching children how to make good moral choices.

Second grade children, who have been baptized, prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend scheduled meetings for each of these sacramental programs. Parents are provided with support and information at these meetings. If a student in Kindergarten or 1st grade has not been baptized, please contact the church office immediately to begin the process.

All students, including those of other faiths:

• Take religion classes in which Catholic doctrine is taught.
• Attend liturgical activities and sacramental programs, and are invited to participate to the extent allowed by Church law.
• Participate in all other aspects of the school’s religious education program, including classroom study and faith formation, for which a numerical grade is earned.
• In grades 3-8 students may have opportunities for Reconciliation at Little Flower Church during Lent and Advent.
