1st - 5th Grade

First Grade

In First grade we continue to gain proficiency with our home row keys. We use the computer to practice academic skills, and learn basic graphic organizers.

We will type nearing 15 words per minute. We will continue to write stories for our class book. 
We will also develop skills to effectively use a device to draw, color, browse the web etc.


Second Grade

In Second Grade we reinforce the typing and program skills that we learned in Kindergarten and 1st Grade. We learn how to use the computer to find sources and collect information. We learn how to make basic presentations using Powerpoint and Keynote. 

We will type nearing 20 words per minute. We will develop skills in creating documents, spreadsheets, powerpoint presentation & other necessary skills.

Third Grade

In Third Grade we begin working with the whole keyboard. We hope to be to 15 words per minute by the end of first semester and 30  words per minute by the end of the year. We use the skills we have learned in previous grades to accomplish more advanced research and project goals. We begin group projects 2nd semester. 

We will be typing nearing 25 words per minute. We will improve on skills in creating documents, spreadsheets, powerpoint presentations & other necessary skills needed.

Fourth Grade

By the end of 4th grade we aim to progress our typing proficiency to 50 words per minute using the whole keyboard. We also participate in group projects and publishable work to be viewed by family and friends. We will also learn about basic troubleshooting techniques. 
We will be typing nearing 30/35 words per minute. We will be creating surveys and starting to collect data. We will develop skills in creating documents, spreadsheets, powerpoint presentations & other necessary skills needed.

Fifth Grade

By the end of 5th grade we will keyboard at 60 words per minute. We will build on our troubleshooting skills and continue to create personal and group work for class and to publish. We begin to learn basic programming skills. 
We will be typing nearing 40/45 words per minute. We will also be continuing to memorize the keyboard. We will be creating surveys and collecting data.We will master skills in creating documents, spreadsheets, powerpoint presentations & other necessary skills needed.
