My name is Betsy Albert. This is my fifteenth year at Little Flower School and my eighth year teaching 1st grade. I have been in education for twenty-one years. I have taught kindergarten, first, third, and fifth grades. After a brief survey of intermediate grades, I realized that I enjoy working with 1st graders the most. I received my B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Colorado and my Master's in Elementary Education from the University of Nevada. In addition to teaching 1st grade, I will be teaching general music to grades K - 5. I live in Reno with my family and puppies, George and Genevieve.
Mrs. Josie Griggs will be our first grade aide this year. This is her sixteenth year at Little Flower School; thirteen of those were spent as the kindergarten aide. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education while in her native country, the Philippines. She taught there for four years prior to moving to the States. She has lived in Reno with her family for the past twenty-one years. Her daughter is a Little Flower alumnus.
Mrs. Marika Horwood will be splitting her time between 1st and 3rd grades this year. She will be helping us in the mornings with reading and math, and she will be teaching religion at the end of each day. This is her 3rd year at Little Flower School. For the past thirteen years, her experience has mainly been in primary grades. She completed the requirements for her K - 8 License at Sierra Nevada College. Prior to that she earned a BA in French from the College of William and Mary. She also took courses in Spanish and Italian. She spent several years in Europe where she met her husband. They moved to Reno in 2003.
We are looking forward to a fun-filled year! If you have any questions or concerns about 1st grade, please feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
